About us
Across many fields, people design experiences that change those who pass through them. They work in customer and service design, in interaction and exhibition design, in performance, in sensory and play-based practice, in wellbeing and inclusion, in the designed places people visit and remember. They rarely share a name, a standard, or a professional home.
The Experience Design Guild will give that shared way of working a coherent identity, a standard to be held to, and a community to belong to. We are an outcome-led, medium-agnostic field: defined not by the form a piece of work takes, but by a way of thinking about how an encounter forms, changes, and grows the people who meet it, and by accepting responsibility for that change.
Why now
We design in a postdigital condition: a world thoroughly shaped by digital technology, in which the interesting questions are no longer about the technology itself but about the human experience around it. That is why a field defined by intention and human effect, rather than by medium, makes sense now in a way it might not have before. It is our context and our moment.
What next
The Experience Design Guild is in its founding phase, establishing its foundations before opening more widely. We intend to seek recognition within the design community and to build, with our founding members, the standards and values that will define the field. Established in Scotland, we work online and look outward.
